For studio mk27, architecture and interior design are inseparable, being conceived one as extension of the other since the very first drawings. These bonds give unity to the architectural propositions from the choice of the furniture to the façade, details and plan design.

Oscar Niemeyer in 1997 reflected about the false contradiction between interiors and the architecture of a building: “When we do a project, we think that the decoration is just any old thing, that it has no great importance for the architecture; but it is enough to destroy architecture! The important thing in the decoration is the empty spaces, the space between one group and another”.

Beyond destroying architecture, as Niemeyer notes, the interior design can catalyze the spatiality; reveal design intentions; and realize potentialities of the building functions.

In Ipês House, the living room layout radically explores spatial continuities: a 9-meter long sofa organizes the plan and shapes a space which is suitable both for daily use and special events. Lamps, sofas, armchairs and shelves arrangement creates free visual perspectives, consonants to the space structure and to architectural fundaments.
